Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) accounts for up to 90% of skin cancers and is the most common periocular malignancy. It is usually painless and more likely to appear in people with fair skin, blues eyes and red or blonde hair. The best way to reduce risk of BCC is to protect yourself from the sun. Please wear a wide brimmed hat or sunglasses and use sunscreen and don’t ignore the lumps and bumps on the eyelids.
Caught early, treatment and removal of the sinister eyelid lesions can be curative.
Thank you to my lovely patient for sharing his photos 2 weeks following his eyelid surgery. Lesion on his right eye has been completely removed
and lower lid positioning restored and he is now able to close his eyelids fully and enjoy his quality of vision and life.
